How have the modules and assignments of this course transformed your understanding of this work from your initial/original analysis in Discussion

The Apocalyptic Art, Popular Culture, & Film Presentation assignment provides an opportunity to analyze how a present-day movie, TV show, or TV series translates apocalyptic themes, concepts, and topics, and is designed to encourage you to reflect on the ways in which the modules of this course have transformed your initial understanding of the theme of the apocalypse in art.

To complete this assignment, use the analytic and interpretive skills you have developed through this semester’s paper assignments, writing responses, and discussion posts to critically analyze the example of the apocalypse in art you chose for the first discussion (Discussion 1: Welcome to the Apocalypse!). NOTE: Do not use another example; you must use the example you wrote about in discussion 1.

STEP 2 | ANALYZE YOUR EXAMPLE BY THINKING ABOUT AND RESPONDING TO THE FOLLOWING THREE QUESTIONS:

Q1: What are the elements in the work that make it a quintessentially apocalyptic work?
Q2: How does your example represent and transform apocalyptic ideas analyzed in class and assigned readings from this & other modules?
Create a slide presentation that consolidates your responses to Questions 1-3, above. This presentation should include a minimum of ten slides: an introduction (identifying the work you analyze and giving your name, class ID, date), slides describing the work you analyze, slides responding to questions 1-3, and a conclusion. Please note: your presentation should include at least two slides for each of Parts II-V. Check your presentation to make sure it is comprised of the following as a minimum:
I.
Introduction
II.
Description of example
(2 slides minimum)
III.
Response to Question 1
(2 slides minimum)
IV.
Response to Question 2
(2 sldes minimum)
V.
Response to Question 3
(2 slides minimum)
VI.
Conclusion

Q3: How have the modules and assignments of this course transformed your understanding of this work from your initial/original analysis in Discussion

STEP 3 | RESEARCH & GATHER VISUAL MATERIALS

Think about how you could use images of your example and visual materials like those discussed in the course to illustrate and support your analyses.
Start collecting and/or creating image files of your example and relevant images that support course discussions. For relevant images you may search on Google and Wikimedia Commons.
Compose your responses to the three questions above.
Draft an Introduction that provides the title of your example and summarizes the purpose of your presentation.
Draft a Conclusion that summarizes the main points of your responses to Questions 1-3.
STEP 5 | CONVERT PRESENTATION TO PDF
! IMPORTANT ! All presentations, regardless of original format, must be converted to and submitted as PDFs. Presentations submitted as PowerPoint, Keynote, Google Slides, or other formats will not be graded and will not receive credit.

SPECIFICS--PLEASE READ CAREFULLY:

Parts I – VI should be presented as bulleted text accompanied by relevant images from your example and course-related materials. Note: Be sure to include a few images related to course materials as well as images from the example you are analyzing.
In order to thoroughly respond to a question or describe your example, it will be necessary to elaborate on Parts II – V by using at least two slides for each part; if you wish, feel free to use more than two slides for each part to support your analysis.
Be judicious about the quantity of text and images you incorporate on any single slide, and conscientious about how you arrange these elements on each slide. The visual attraction and legibility of each slide is important and will affect your grade. Don’t overwhelm a slide with too much text or too many images and avoid slides that contain only text or only images. If you have a lot of relevant images or extensive text to support a particular part of your analysis, create an additional slide or slides.
Remember to proofread text (bulleted points, captions) for punctuation, spelling, and grammar.
