Exploratory Assignment: Communication

You will use one alternative method of communication for a period of time, similar to one used by an individual with ASD and then report your experience. You are not allowed to speak during this experience and you are not allowed to make direct eye contact with your communication partner! You must also use your non-dominant hand, if you type, write, or sign. When (or if ) you do respond, you must wait at least 30 seconds before you answer.Grading: You will be graded on your ability to explain your reactions and interpretations of these simulated “ASD experiences’. After your experience , write your personal thoughts, feelings, responses from others, and any other insightful or relevant situations as a result of your experience. Use correct grammar, punctuation, and PFL (People First Language)Part Two Essay:a. (from your perspective as the person with ASD in this experience), answer the following questions below in your assignment submission:How did others react to your ability to communicate?Do you believe that you were perceived as ‘less’ intelligent when you did not communicate or had a different way to communicate?How did you feel while attempting to communicate?If you were an individual with ASD and this was your communication method, what would you change?Could you use this form of communication in an academic class or social situation?If this student was in your class, would you, as the teacher, be comfortable using this type of communication for class work and social exchanges?
