This is because the primary function of the provider at this point is reducing risk factors and optimizing health. Most providers thrive on health promotion, but with adolescents, it isn’t as easy as it seems. There are multiple developmental reasons that make developing a relationship a bit different than establishing rapport with an adult patient.
