Instructions:

For this paper you are to critique the use of racial profiling within policing. While this can include a brief history on the use and many controversies related to racial profiling by U.S. law enforcement, the focus within your paper should be either your defense of this practice or your justification for abolishing its use.

In short, this paper is going to require you to take a stand on this controversial and often heated topic. In short, no sitting on the fence, i.e., racial profiling either does more good than bad and should be retained or it does more bad than good and should be abolished as a practice/method used by law enforcement within the United States of America.

– The research paper will be worth 33% of your final grade. Your research paper should be written in accordance with the APA 7th Edition writing standards. – The format for the paper is: (a) APA, (b) Times New Roman style only, (c) 12-point font, (d) double spaced, and (e) 1 inch page margins (Top, Bottom, Left and Right Side). – Minimum of 15 double spaced pages; counting title page, abstract, table of contents, and 1 reference page; so 11 pages of actual content) research paper covering the following topic –

The paper must have at least 7 references from primary sources, for example

(a) .gov websites, (b) your text, and (c), peer-reviewed journals. Make sure in text references, quotes, and reference list are written in accordance with APA. Note: Encyclopedias of any kind, including the very popular Wikipedia (not allowed at all in this paper), and .com sites are not primary sources and should not be heavily relied on in constructing academic papers.

The latter can, however, be useful to help gather some background information and to point the way to more reliable sources.Note: All quotes must be encapsulated in quotation marks. Likewise, all papers must be 100% original work to this class.

The discovery of past work being used will be treated as cheating, and as is the case for plagiarism, will as a minimum will result in a 0 for the paper. Also the rubric aside, papers that fall short of minimum length will have a max point award related to the % of the paper they actually submit. For example the max possible for a paper that is 50% short of the minimum length will be 50%.
